| Almost There: Appalachian On Cusp of CC Triumph After 4-2 Win | The Appalachian Black Bears moved to within one game of the Round 3 today, downing the visiting Philadelphia Hornets at Old League Park by a score of 4-2. Black Bears third baseman Larry McCormick was named player of the game after he was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The win gives the Black Bears a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Cecil Cup.
Had McCormick not come through in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, McCormick hit a 2-run home run. The Black Bears never looked back after taking the 4-2 lead.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said McCormick.
Game 5 is set to be played tomorrow at Old League Park. Slated to start are Toyoshige Takahashi for the Philadelphia Hornets and William Brooks for the the Appalachian Black Bears.
