Black Bears Come Up Short at Philadelphia
|
The exploits of shortstop Ernesto Gallegos helped the Philadelphia Hornets defeat the Appalachian Black Bears, 2-1. Gallegos was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Claudio Álvarez. The Hornets bumped their record to 24-9 with this latest triumph.
Gallegos contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Philadelphia in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Gallegos took a cutter from Eric Hammond and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Hornets to leap in front, 2-1.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Jeff Fisher.
