Hidalgo goes 3-for-4, Black Bears Move to 2-0
|
The Appalachian Black Bears defeated the Chicago Reapers, 8-3, at Old League Park today. Leading the charge for Appalachian was designated hitter Manuel Hidalgo. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Dave Klein picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 5 in 5.2 innings. Appalachian, now 2-0, is setting the league on fire so far.
Fred Kennedy drew 1 walk for Appalachian. The four-time Slick Fielder Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off José Rodríguez. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Kennedy told the Appalachian Times.
