The Appalachian Black Bears downed the Brooklyn Wolves, 8-3, at Old League Park. The Black Bears were led by Lorenzo Hernández, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-4 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk. Alberto Gutiérrez earned the win to go to 3-3. He allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Sandro Vargo was credited with the save for Appalachian, his 10th of the season.
Yvon Settignano, who won the Outstanding Newcomer Award in 2024, chipped in for Appalachian with a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Jeff Fisher said.
The Black Bears bumped their record to 25-17 with this latest triumph.
