Reapers Sneak Past Black Bears, 6-5
|
The Appalachian Black Bears got a sterling performance from designated hitter Ray McJannett, but the Reapers still prevailed, 6-5. McJannett was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Chicago reliever Andrew Giese picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Román Guerrero took the loss. Chicago has now won 3 straight, while the Black Bears have lost 3 in a row.
The Reapers got a big at-bat from third baseman Lawrence Connolly. For the game, Connolly went 2 for 6 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the 13th, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 78th hit of the season gave Chicago a 6-5 lead.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Luke Farthing.
