The Appalachian Black Bears did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Mepkin Abbey Monks at Old League Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Eric Hammond, who captured player of the game honors. The Black Bears bumped their record to 31-23 with this latest triumph.

Rick Chase aided the Appalachian cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the shortstop went 2 for 3 with 2 singles.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Chase.
