The Antelope Valley Raptors got a sterling performance from pitcher Josh Dunlap, but the Monks still prevailed, 4-3. Dunlap was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Even with the win, the Monks have a dismal 26-54 record.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Flint Francis came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Antelope Valley pitcher Jeffrey Metcalf, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Mepkin Abbey on top, 4-3.
"Nice to get this one," said Francis. "Wins have been hard to come by."
