Monks Lose, 4-2, at Old League Park
|
The Chicago Reapers faced a tough opponent in Mepkin Abbey pitcher Derek Hanson, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Old League Park by a final score of 4-2. Hanson went 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Chicago reliever Wesley Dutton picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Phil Wheelton shouldered the loss. Rubén Mota, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
Had Steve Jones not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Jones hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Reapers.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Mepkin Abbey skipper Joshua Doss, "and it cost us."
The Reapers bumped their record to 41-41 with this latest triumph.
