When the games really matter, the Brick Barracudas put on their best show, beating the Philadelphia Hornets by a final score of 3-2 today. Claudio Álvarez earned player of the game honors, as he came in in relief and pitched to 19 batters . Brick now leads Philadelphia 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair.

Luis Rosales made it 3-2 in favor of Brick when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with one out in the top of the 14th. The red-hot Barracudas went on to win.

"We were in it," said Philadelphia manager Michael Weintraub. "We just didn't score enough runs."

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Old League Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Paul Gilbert for Brick and Michael Leach for Philadelphia.
