Meerkats Win Again, Extend Series Lead to 2-0
|
Brick third baseman António Venet pounded Milwaukee Meerkats pitchers at Old League Park, but it was not enough to keep the Barracudas from falling, 8-6 in Game 2 of the League Championship. Venet hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice and was named player of the game for his efforts, even as he saw the Barracudas slip to a 2-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the third, with the game tied, Salvador Velásquez was at the plate when Milwaukee scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Meerkats to go in front, 3-2.
Velásquez said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
Game 3 is set to be played Sunday, September 30th, 2035 at Old League Park. Slated to start are Manuel García for the Milwaukee Meerkats and Ernest Metcalf for the the Brick Barracudas.
