Meerkats Turn Back New Orleans, 3-1
|
Milwaukee starter Brian Powell pitched effectively against the New Orleans Crawdaddy's at Old League Park. The right-hander led his team to a 3-1 win. Powell, the winner, moves to 10-4. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 4 walks. Pat Carmichael earned his 23rd save in 24 chances.
Sung-heun Hwa, who is on pace for 103 RBI this season, aided the Milwaukee cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the third baseman was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Hwa. "Just do my job."
Milwaukee improves to 53-27 with the win. They lead their division by 11½ games.
