Mepkin Abbey third baseman Javier Chalén was instrumental in his team's 3-2 win over the Chicago Reapers. Chalén, who is a two-time Slick Fielder Award winner, went 4-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Monks. Alejandro Báez picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed no earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. On the season, he is now 3-2. Even with the win, the Monks have a dismal 27-57 record.
The Monks got a big at-bat from first baseman Ryan Gary. For the game, Gary was 2 for 5 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 12th double of the season gave Mepkin Abbey a 2-0 lead.
