Breaking News Wednesday, June 10th, 2020: Meléndez Scoops up SDMBCOL Top Hurler Award 19-year-old Gustavo Meléndez of the Faber College Sunrays put together a good year in 2020 for such a young player. Meléndez was named today as the winner of the SDMB College Outstanding Pitcher Award. Meléndez crafted an impressive 6-2 record and a 2.19 ERA. In 78 innings he allowed 61 hits, struck out 80, and walked 9. Monday, May 25th, 2020: SDMB College Picks Top Player The Faber College Sunrays received word today that second baseman Ellis Berry was selected SDMB College Player of the Week for his stellar performance in last week's games. Berry took full advantage of all 24 plate appearances last week as he hit .524 with 11 hits, 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 7 runs scored. This season Berry is batting at a .306 clip with 5 home runs and 36 RBIs. Thursday, May 7th, 2020: Settignano Raps Faber College for 5 Hits It was a sensational day at the plate for Yvon Settignano as he led the charge to a 18-7 win over the Sunrays. The Louisville College right fielder was pure misery for the Faber College pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 6 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. The manager for the Sunrays told BNN reporters after the game, "Settignano put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Y. Settignano doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off A. Martínez in the 8th.
