It was a big day with the bat for Earl Murphy of the Norfolk College Bluejackets at Ballpark of Norfolk College as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Modesto College 13-0.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 5 hits in 5 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Murphy had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Bluejackets had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
E. Murphy singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This year Murphy has 7 home runs and a .416 batting average.

| Tuesday, May 12th, 2020: Season Over for Northeast in Norfolk College
The season is finished for Justin Northeast of the Norfolk College Bluejackets. The club announced today that he will forego the rest of the year because of injury. The Bluejackets reliever suffered a ruptured disc while throwing a pitch in a recent game against the Louisville College Sky Warriors. Team doctors said it would take at least 7-8 months to heal.
This season Northeast has claimed 1 save and registered a 1-0 record with a 4.24 ERA. He has 14 relief appearances spanning 17 innings and has struck out 11.

The Valleycats tripped up the Bluejackets 17-7 today, led by Adrián García, their 20-year-old left fielder. He tagged Norfolk College pitching for 5 hits, making life miserable for them the entire game.
A. García hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 5th, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and hit a two-run double in the 9th.
This year García has hit at a .286 pace and produced 13 RBIs, no home runs and scored 12 runs.
