It was a big day with the bat for Earl Murphy of the Norfolk College Bluejackets at Ballpark of Norfolk College as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Modesto College 13-0.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 5 hits in 5 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Murphy had collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Bluejackets had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
E. Murphy singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This year Murphy has 7 home runs and a .416 batting average.

| Sunday, May 17th, 2020: Dave Lee Blanks Wildwood Lake College
The Wildwood Lake College Colonials struggled at the plate today against Bighorns hurler Dave Lee, who shackled them on 3 hits while hurling a complete game 3-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Colonials skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Lee finished the game with 12 strikeouts and no walks in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Dave made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
This year Lee has gone 3-5 with an ERA of 5.95 and has 45 strikeouts in 62 innings.

 | Thursday, May 14th, 2020: Wright Fires Shutout in Valleycats Victory
Daniel Wright allowed 1 hit while giving up 3 walks and collecting 10 strikeouts as Colorado Springs College blanked Modesto College 9-0.
In the postgame interview Wright said, "I'm trying to keep the ball down and let guys put it in play. It worked for me today."
This season Wright has compiled a 4-3 mark with a 4.50 ERA.
