| Breaking News |  | Monday, July 27th, 2020: SL1 Player of the Week Chosen
There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Mauro Torres, the Quincy first baseman, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Sub League 1 Player of the Week honors.
Torres piled up 7 hits in 19 at-bats, 5 home runs and 8 RBIs while hitting .368.
So far this year Torres has 15 home runs and a .260 batting average.

 | Thursday, July 23rd, 2020: Gems Chill Velásquez's Hot Streak
Salvador Velásquez of the Akron Beacons came up empty at the plate today and went hitless in 4 at-bats. That put a quick end to his 26-game hitting streak. To make matters even worse, Akron dropped the game to the Quincy Gems 7-2.
In a post-game comment Velásquez told the press, "It was not a good day today. We lost the game and the streak is over."
This year Velásquez has hit at a .310 clip with 100 hits, 9 home runs, 46 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

| Saturday, June 20th, 2020: Beacons Watson Dominates Gems
Fritz Watson held the Gems to 4 harmless hits as the Akron Beacons whitewashed Quincy by the score of 4-0. Watson had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in the win.
This season to date, Watson has fashioned a 8-5 mark and 3.86 ERA in 123.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .278 against him and he has logged 39 strikeouts.
